Vanessa is awarded an R35 to continue investigating natural product characterization in the context of infectious disease. This will involve a mixture of mass spec method development, metabolite isolation, and mechanistic work.

Matt McCoo, an undergraduate student in the CUrehs program, joins for a year research internship. He will be working on discovering antibiotics from cave bacteria with activity against ESKAPE pathogens. Welcome Matt!

After successful rotations, Dustin and Rachel officially join the Phelan lab. Dustin is from the Toxicology Program in the School of Pharmacy. His research will focus on host-microbe interactions. Rachel is from the Microbiology Program in the School of Medicine. Her research will focus on the effect of environment on biofilm development. Welcome! We're excited to have you.

Our high school researcher, Britney, returns to the lab to continue investigating how soil microbes interact.

The Phelan lab was awarded one of four inaugural Therapeutic Innovation grants by the ALSAM Foundation to interrogate the role of clinical therapy in the development of microbiome dysbiosis.
