Rachel grew up in central Wisconsin, attended college at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, and graduated in 2015 with a BS in biology and microbiology. Rachel worked in two labs during her undergraduate career, studying green catalysis in the lab of Dr. Rob McGaff, and finding the effect of a novel drug on microbes in the lab of Drs. Michael Abler and Marc Rott. She began pursuing her PhD in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at UC Denver – Anschutz in the fall of 2016. Rachel’s research is now focused on the ecology of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other cystic fibrosis associated microbes in sputum. Rachel joined the Phelan lab in July 2017.
